A retired deputy division chief with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has received the Silver Sparky award from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Tim Birr received the award Friday at the Oregon Fire Service Meritorious Awards banquet at the Portland Expo Center.
It is the highest award given a civilian to recognize outstanding achievement in fire prevention and safety.
The award was presented to Birr by Oregon Fire Marshal Nancy Orr. It recognizes thousands of hours of work by Birr in drafting and ensuring the passage of Oregon’s Fire-Safer Cigarette law.
Birr also was recognized for his involvement and support for the residential sprinkler initiative in Oregon.
“Tim has an amazing commitment to fire safety issues and a passion for the safety of all Oregonians,” Orr said.
